From 1855-57 Coke was used by the Geelong and Melbourne Railway Company on their Well Tank Locomotives as it lasted longer than ordanary Black Coal, the locomotive Bunkers held between 8cwt to 9cwt coke and would last a distance of 40-50km with average speeds of 30-35mph. The engery Coke produces is btween 12,000BTU/lb to 13,500BTU/lb
