A spline including 2 parallel catenaries hung from a gantry above a double track with a 12ft separation between track centres. Each catenary is supported from the left-hand side of its respective track in the direction in which the spline is layed.
The model spacing between gantries is 50m. For the spline meshes to be represented in game with the correct proportions, a spline point should be added at an approximate multiple of 50m from the prior point.
Suitable for straight track and for curvatures with a radius exceeding 450m. For sharper curves use <kuid:368725:30137>. The default height of the pickup wire above the railtop is 5.3m, midway within the NSW operating range of 4.75 to 5.8m.
Where a double track splits, for instance to negotiate an island platform, it is required to transition from a double-track catenary spline to 2 single-track catenary splines. At a terminating spline point for the double-track catenary spline, leave a gap of 25m or 50m, then commence 2 new single-track catenary splines on each of the splitting tracks. Join the catenary above the RIGHT-hand track of the double-track spline to the RIGHT-hand single-track spline using <kuid:368725:30140> 'NSW catenary for a gently-curving double to single track transition, LH' (50m runs) or <kuid:368725:30141> 'NSW catenary for a sharply-curving double to single track transition, LH' (25m runs). Join the catenary above the LEFT-hand track of the double-track spline to the LEFT-hand single-track spline using <kuid:368725:30142> 'NSW catenary for a gently-curving double to single track transition, LH' (50m runs) or <kuid:368725:30143> 'NSW catenary for a sharply-curving double to single track transition, LH' (25m runs).
At double-track junctions, bring the catenary-with-gantry spline over the common double-track up to the junction point, then leave a gap of 25m or 50m and restart a catenary-with-gantry spline on each branch from the junction. Join the common-track spline to each branch spline using <kuid:368725:30139> 'NSWGR catenary wire spline for sharply-curving double track' (25m runs) or <kuid:368725:30138> 'NSWGR catenary wire spline for gently-curving double track' (50m runs).
In yards where there are multiple junctions that form tracks running in parallel, use the single-track catenary-wire splines <kuid:368725:30132> and <kuid:368725:30133> in conjunction with <kuid:60723:1271> 'NSW Catenary Gantry Spline' and <kuid:60723:1275> 'NSW Catenary Gantry Posts'. In this case, the height of the catenary wires and their supports will need independent adjustment to maintain the established catenary height above the track.
The model meshes are based on those in a workbook provided by David Owen (Davido). Thanks to David for sharing his work.
