In 1976 CFR introduced a new diesel electric locomotive whith an ALCO engine rated at 4000Hp,
becaming the most powerfull diesel locomtive in CFR fleet.It was intended to serve on
non-electrified lines ,most of them beeing used on Cluj Napoca-Oradea
and Iasi-Marasesti lines.After 1991,due to high fuel and oil consuption and mecanichal failures
all locomotives were retired and later in 2000-2004 were scrapped at Strehaia.Only 3 badly damaged
locomotives survived and now are in Brasov in order to be preserved.
There were 2 models:one for freight trains named DDm and another for fast passenger trains DDc.
