Rx207 is a North British product, built in Glasgow in 1913 as a superheated variant of a R class, joining 83 other examples including the Rx's rebuilt from R class locomotives. The class was built for mixed traffic service on the Adelaide-Wolseley line, although was relegated to branch line use from the 1920's onwards. Towards the end of steam on the SAR, the last survivors of the class were put on shunting duties, and the occasional tour by the ARHS. In the 1960's, SteamRanger director Dean Harvey set aside 207 and 224 for preservation, which eventually became part of the SteamRanger collection. Rx207 has been in almost constant service with SteamRanger since, especially on school holiday Cockle Trains.
