Canada's first road diesel, built 1928 by the Canadian Locomotive Company. Beardmore and Co was commissioned for two V-12 prime movers developing 1330 HP apiece, and Westinghouse supplied electronics. First run 20 November 1928 achieved 65 mph and yielded a continuous tractive effort of 42,000 lbs. Commissioned 26 September 1929 on the International Limited. Quickly, the two sections were separated as 9000 and 9001, and ran independently of each other. In 1941, 9000 and 9001 were equipped with plate armor and new EMD power plants developing 1440 HP. The two engines were used on armored trains in British Columbia for the duration of the war. Armor was removed after the war, and the engine operated for another year before retirement. Number vacated and replaced by a F3 in 1948.
