The NZGR T class were a set of 6 Baldwin locomotives, numbered 101-106. They were freight engines, normally restricted to 18 mph, but on a few occasions they were known to haul passenger trains to match the speeds of their passenger counterparts. These remained in Baldwin condition until 1900, when they were fitted with air brakes, safety chains, steel cabs, Belpaire fireboxes, capped stacks and new cylinders.
