Formely a Dublin and South Eastern Railway Locomotive No.18 built by the DSER at their Grand Canal Street Works, Dublin in 1910. After the Amalgamation of the railways in 1925 into the Great Southern Railways, No.444 was rebuilt with a Belpaire Boiler in 1943 but after it became part of CIE in 1945 No.444 was rebuilt again giving its old round topped boiler back in 1947.
