Before the 1961 Antarctic treaty forbidding further claims to the Last Continent, what if the United States had staked a claim, perhaps on the Antarctic Peninsula? This route is located somewhere around Rothschild, Antarctica, though the scenery is all freelance. Utilizing just a pair of 0-8-0 steam locomotives, a 40ft boxcar, and a 40ft flatcar, the American Antarctic Railway Company (AACR) provides service to Venti Station on the coast and Outpost Amber a couple of miles inland, bringing materials up a steep grade to the former from Port Liberty, a climb that fully laden, a single 0-8-0 can handle at but six miles per hour. Severe storms wrack the coast frequently, forcing train crews to seek shelter by the heat of the firebox if not near any structures. Are you up for the challenge?
