From 1969 the South Australian Railways, Victorian Railways and New South Wales Railways started construction on what was to be a standard container wagon to be bogie exchanged for broad and standard gauges for running between the states capital cities and to shipping ports such as Adelaide-Melbourne (BG), Adelaide-Perth (SG), Adelaide-Sydney (SG), Melbourne-Sydney (SG), Sydney-Perth via Port Pirie (SG), Sydney-Brisbane (SG). The South Australian Railways and the Victorian Railways coded their wagons FQX with South Australia being allocated numbers 1 to 500 however SAR only built 120 while Victoria took numbers 501 onwards and built upto 510 of them by 1980, New South Wales coded theirs OCX and built 90 taking numbers 14551 to 14640, from 1973 NSW started building OCY container wagons for Standard Gauge only traffic taking numbers 14901 to 15000 which where similar to the OCX with 100 built, this was extended to another 370 new OCY wagons built taking numbers 34301 to 35050 and numbers 150001 to 150070 having a total of 560 built by 1975, containers where loaded and unloaded at country towns by having a flat wagon on the end with some ramps for the forklifts without the need to left the containers and place them on the ground. The load limit of 75 Tons (76 tonnes) and axle load of 18 Tons (19 tonnes) is due to country lines still having 60lb/y and 75lb/y rails along with weakened timber bridges, in Victoria some lines required a few KQ and KMQ wagons placed between the FQX to spread the gross weight going over weakened timber bridges such as Bairnsdale to Orbost line. From 1978 South Australian Ralways goods stock and locomotives was taken over by Australian National Railways with some of the FQX being repainted into a Maroone red colour then to Green and Yellow from 1984.
This model represents the FQX as entered service in a clean SAR grey livery between 1969 to 1978 on Broad Gauge, Step's created by Zec.
