From September 1984 through to February 1985 all VODX wagons had their sides lowered and new timber bolsters fitted, they where recoded VOEX and renumbered 13 to 38 following the ELX conversions for the increasing Steel Slab traffic between Albury, NSW and Long Island, Vic. These wagons never went on the Standard Gauge, while at Albury loads where moved from SG wagons to BG wagons rather than bogie exchange. Going into 1987 all VOEX where recoded VKEX and fitted with extra stanchions.
