The first two S Wagons numbers 1 & 2 were built by the American Car & Foundry company in the U.S.A. and assembled at Newport workshops in 1925. The other 99 were converted from E wagons for wartime traffic between 1941 and 1942 and kept there original E numbers, E 1 was renumbered to S 203 as there was already an S 1. From 1946 a number were sold to Oil companies or utilised for carrying petroleum-based products after tanks were fitted. With a change in needs by the railways a large number were rebuilt back into E wagons between 1947-1949. In 1959 ‘S59 & S158’ was converted to QC traffic. From Augest 1962 to May 1963 ’S26’ was recoded to SF then back to S, in the same month it was again recoded but to SEF, in December of 1962 ’S60’ was also recoded to SEF.
This model represent numbers 26 through to 158 from 1957 till 1960, the 3link and buffers where removed from mid to late 1950s when the VR was coverting all rollingstock and locomotives to auto couplers, stock that could not be converted where scrapped, Steps created by Zec.
