This enginespec is for the Victorian Railways Y Class and RY Class Locomotive built Pheonix Foundry and Robison Bros South Melbourne after reboilering to 175PSI Larger Boilers between 1904 to 1908. During 1924 some where equiped with Duel Westinghouse Pumps with Larger diamter air pipes and Shunter's Boards on both Locomotive and Tender, some that where used on Suburban goods/passenger only had Tender Shunter's Boards.
This e-spec is setup with the single D Class Westinghouse Pump, This physic is set to keep the boiler pressure high as the locomotive was mostly used on heavy goods around Melbourne, Newport, Geelong, Ballaarat, Ararat and where sometimes used for banking on the 1in52 to 1in48 Grades as the reboilering gave them 25% more tractive effort compared to the earlier 140 PSI rated at 17,472lbs tractive effort, they where also used on extra passenger trains till early 1920s as the Surburban lines had rather steep grades. The newer Tait Cars and Swing Doors being too heavy for the 2-4-2 and 4-4-2 Tanks leaving only the DDE and Y Classes.
