A lower-quadrant, mechanically-operated, secondary semaphore starting signal is mounted at the top of a 16ft wooden post. The post is positioned to the right of the track in the facing direction. At 8ft on the right-hand side of the post, a mechanical centre-pivoted shunt-ahead signal is mounted. When the shunt signal is off and the starting signal is on, the signal may be passed at slow speed onto a path that diverges to the right from the mainline.
The original oil lamps of the semaphore signals are still in place. The starting semaphore can take 2 positions over the lowerer quadrant: horizontal (STOP), and -50 degrees (PROCEED).
