A pit between the rails, 32ft long and 3ft 8in deep, into which ash from steam locos was released.
The ash was shovelled from the pit to an open wagon left standing on the adjacent depressed ash road.
A water hose could be used to wash ash from a loco's ash pan, and so a drain was provided in the pit floor to remove excess water.
The model is scripted to work with locomotives equipped to accumulate and dump ash. Examples of such locos can be found in Potteries Loop Line and Settle & Carlisle (TANE Rail-Sim release) payware routes.
A 12m apron mesh has been provided to cover the digholes required to expose the model's pit and depressed ash road.
