Up to 1947 the Pangela signal box and platform were located on the Up track of the Down/Up passing tracks. Later this became the Loop track when Pangela converted to Main/Loop working.
In 1947 the signal box was replaced at a location directly opposite the old one on the Main track of the Main/Loop passing tracks. The old signal box was demolished and its Up-end platform ramp removed.
The usefulness of the old platform for staff exchanges is doubtful because trains entering the loop track would be stopping and so a safeworking officer standing on the old platform would be blocked by the stopped train from returning to the signal box. Images taken in the 1970s and 1980s show the old platform being used for materials storeage.
