A manually-operated jib crane capable of lifting 5 tons as deployed by NSWGR in rural yards in the early 20th century to transfer goods from rail wagons to and from road vehicles.
The crane pedestal is embedded in a 10ft-square, brick-faced platform 3ft 3in (1m) above ground level. The crane controls (cable winder, brake, pawl) were operated while standing on the platform.
The rotation of the jib on its pedestal was achieved by pushing the jib on its side.
Use <kuid:368725:20428> 'NSWGR departmental housing, wooden steps' for access to the platform from ground level.
