Five diesel electric shunting locomotives were constructed for British Railways Western Region between 1952-1959 by Ruston & Hornsby Ltd., Lincoln. They were fitted with a Paxman 6VPHL engine of 165hp, and BTH traction motors. Fitted with vacuum train brakes, the locos were allocated to the Western Region's Permanent Way Yards, lasting in service until the late 1980s.
