An enginespec for Brush/Beyer-Peacock 0-4-0 diesel-electric shunting locomotives, D2999. 200hp, 18mph, TE 19,200 lbf. Loco mass 30 tons (30480 kgs).
Five diesel-electric locomotives were constructed by Brush and Beyer-Peacock in 1958 and 1959 for use as demonstrators with industrial customers. No repeat orders were secured as many potential customers had no facilty to maintain electrical equipment. As a result the 5 locos spent much of their time on loan to steelworks such as Parkgate in Rotherham and at the Steel Company of Wales, Orb Works, in Newport. One loco was trialled on British Railways who subsequently purchased it and numbered it D2999. It was based at Stratford Depot in East London, and after a short-working life of 9 years, it was withdrawn in 1967 and scrapped shortly afterwards. One of the remaining four locomotives survives in preservation at the Middleton Railway and masquerades as D2999.
