The VAK Class coal hoppers were modified around 2001 for Queensland grain traffic, the converts were ranged numerically from 40621-40730, 41136-41190, 41567-41626 and 41953 to 41977, the ECOfab lids were made by a Brisbane based company and weighed round 750kg. After modification these became the VGKs, 'K' symbolising conversions from VAK class. In Aurizon service they are under the class of VGHM and VGKMs.
