Cross Country HST:
The cross-country route franchise came up for renewal in 2007.
Virgin Trains lost the right to run these services and the successful
bidder Arriva took over. They formed a subsiduary company Cross Country
for the NE-SW routes.
In 2008, Cross Country was in need of additional trains to supplement
the current Voyager fleet. Stored HST sets were identified as
an ideal solution. 8 class 43 power cars were rebuilt and fitted with
new MTU diesel engines and 5 sets of mk3 coaches were refurbished.
The consists of these trains are class 43, TF, TC, TS, TS, TS,
TS, TGS, class 43.
