The AAR type Y was the standard freight car truck for several decades, running from the 1920s into the early 1950s. Despite being a 'standard' design, each foundry's version of the design appeared to have slight differences. However, spring packages, brake rigging, bolsters and journal parts interchanged between all type Y sideframes. This particular model is based on drawings of frames cast by Buckeye.
