This is the first version of this remarkably long-lived vehicle. Originally built in 1924 by the C&VBT's locomotive superintendant George Pollard, blacksmith Joe Doherty and carpenter Sam Graham in the company's own workshops at Castlederg, Co. Tyrone. It ran from 1924 until Christmas 1928 when it was condemned, its engine was sold to a local sawmill and it lay derelict. In 1933 the remains were bought by Henry Forbes for the CDR and it was moved to Stranorlar depot. There it was completely rebuilt as a railcar, becoming the second no.2 in the CDR's series. As such it ran until about 1941 and then remained out of service at Glenties for three years as its engine required refitting. In 1944 it was rebuilt again as a railcar trailer and ran as such until the CDR's closure at the end of 1959. At the closure auction it was sold and subsequently used as a summer house for many years.
