Whereas my 'Carice' represents a cargo steamer in her heyday, 'Petrel' shows a vessel of the same design towards the end of her life, almost certainly as a tramp steamer, care-worn and close to what was often termed a 'rust bucket', where the owners are unwilling or unable to spend much on cosmetic maintenance. Ships certainly looked like this in the 1950s, as profitable loads became harder to come by, but the same might be said of the depression years of the 20s and 30s, or the deprivations of the 40s as well. She might even have lasted into the very early 60s.
Once again, thanks to PEV for his fantastic tools, and to fellow members of Trainz Carriage and Wagon Works, for their knowledge, suggestions and help.
