P2 is the abbreviation for a type of residential panel building found in former East Germany. The P stands for parallel and refers to load-bearing walls arranged parallel to wall surfaces. 2 denotes the arrangement of two stairways in a building.

P2 ist die Abkürzung für den Wohnungsbautypus eines Plattenbaus in der DDR. Das P steht dabei für parallel, die tragenden Wände sind parallel zu den Fassadenflächen angeordnet. Und die 2 verweist auf die Anordnung zweier Aufgänge in einem Gebäude. Eine Zahl hinter dem Schrägstrich gibt die Anzahl der Stockwerke an. Diese industrielle Bauweise ermöglichte den schnellen Aufbau ganzer Wohnblöcke. Sie kam von 1961 bis zum Ende der DDR in vielen Großstädten zum Einsatz.

Dieser Plattenbau wurde dem, 1972 in der Dessauer Ferdinand von Schill Straße errichteten, Wohnblock nachempfunden, wobei die farbliche Gestaltung der Balkone der kreativen Freiheit des Autors geschuldet ist und vom Original abweicht."
