Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881 for the Denver & Rio Grande RR. This Locomotive have road number 400 in 1881. Engines 400-411 assigned to helper service on the 4% grades of Veta, Marshall and Cumbres Passes. These engines (400-411) were the largest narrow gauge Consolidations built for the D&RG. Re-classified and renumbered 340 in 1924.
In 1903: Link and pin couplers were replaced by new Janney automatic couplers.
In 1905: DRG stop painting locomotive name on her cab panels.
In 1914: The locomotive received a new stell boiler.
DRG shop removed the original brass builder plate.
Locomotive lose her gracefull diamond stack, replaced with shotgun stack.
The beautiful box headlight were replaced by electric light, powered by new steam generator.
In 1921: A general renumbering and reclassification of most of the compagny.
The old class 70 became the new class C 19.
