When I made the original version of this bridge I only had information on the part
over the Hudson River, in Poughkeepsie, NY. This is the complete 6700 ft long span. The rails are 215 ft
above the water. I made the piers a bit taller then shown in the plans but its height adjustable so folks
can adjust the terraine under it to some extent. At over 265,000 polys this is definately a high-poly count
item but its length should alleviate most frame rate problems. As built the trusses only had two frame members
per truss but as engines got heavier a third frame member was added. This is the three frame memeber version.
Eventually engines got even heavier so the bridge was converted to single track. Today it is no longer in
use as a railroad bridge and has been converted to part of a hiking trail. The Bessemer process had just been
perfected when this was built and it was constructed with that higher quality steel so it seems a bit surprising
the bridge hasn't been dismanteled when you consider how much steel is involved and what its scrap metal value
must be. NOTE! the thumbnail only shows about half the bridge (its big).
