This combination 2 track and 2 lane bridge is based on the Ft Madison Bridge
over the Mississippi River built in 1927 to replace an earlier bridge built in 1887 which no longer had
sufficient load capacity. The swing span is 525 ft long and the time foir a typical opening and closing
sequence for a 15 barge tow was 20 minutes. This is normally closed and will open in 30 seconds at the
approach of a boat which has been set up as a locomotive running on invisible track in the water. This
will stop automotive traffic but not rail traffic. That can be done with markers, rules, etc. Due to
its complexity this is a very high poly count item but its length (1 mile) should alleviate most frame
rate problems.
NOTE! The rails and ties are not real track - just parts in Gmax to look like rails and ties. You must
run invisible track across the lower half of the bridge. If I had done that a normal train would also
trigger the bridge to open when it crossed. It wouldn't derail or crash the program but would look
pretty silly magically floating across the open span suspended in the air.
