This is a United States Navy 16 inch railcar mounted howitzer circa 1918. As a rule, a howitzer
has a shorter barrel (and sometimes a larger bore) then other guns allowing greater elevation (80 degrees in this
case) to lob shells down on the target from a high altitude. Battle ships, Cruisers, etc usually have thinner armor
on the deck then around the belt (sides) so a howitzer shot is more likely to penetrate the deck armor then a low
angle shot penetrating the belt armor. This this a heavy car and should make operational movement interesting as
a train with this and its support cars as the consist would have high priority of movement but be forced to travel
relatively slow due to the weight of the car and the care that must be taken when transporting the ammo and
powder bags in the support cars. When set up to fire it would be located on a gently curving track for lateral aiming.
