A modern UK road 600mm sign warning road users that headroom (for example, beneath a bridge) is limited to 14 foot 6 inches (approximately 4.4 metres). This version shows the height in both Imperial (feet and inches) and metric units.
Current UK road traffic regulations allow the headroom to be displayed either in Imperial units alone, or in both Imperial and metric units. Where both systems are used, the Imperial sign must be displayed either above or to the left of the metric sign. Signs displaying metric units only are not permitted in the UK at present.
