The Sp47 diesel locomotive was invented in HCP factory in Poland around 1973. It was supposed to be a powerfull very fast reliable express train locomotive for the most prized trains. In 1975 a prototype was released, followed by another one in 1977. The locomotives had new 16 cylinder 3000hp W2116SSF engines installed. With that power they were supposed to reach a speed of 140kmh. Mass production was never released, since the research on the diesels was cancelled after importing a large group of ST44 diesels from Soviet Union. The 2 existing SP47 diesels survived in express service till the mid 1990s when their engines malfunctioned and they were taken out of service. SP47 001 was preserved in the railway museum of Koscierzyna.
