South Devon Railway 7ft broad gauge atmospheric railway vacuum station tube. A short length of this independent vacuum tube was laid at each end of each station. It contained its own piston connected to a rope. This was connected to the front of a stationary train standing at the station. The tibe was then activated and the integral piston pulled the train out of the station. The rope was released from the front ofr the train once it had gained sufficient momentum to take it into the beginning of the main vacuum tube on the track.
