CDR no. 11 Phoenix. Originally built as a steam tram loco by Atkinson Walker for the Clogher Valley Railway, it proved inadequately powered for its intended use. At the closure of the CVR it was bought by Henry Forbes in 1933. The steam boiler and fittings were removed and replaced by a Gardner 6.L.2 diesel engine. It was used most frequently between Strabane and Stranorlar on the old Finn Valley line, and on the Strabane and Letterkenny route. The Partition of Ireland in 1922 introduced customs crossings between counties Derry and Donegal and Phoenix was used to transfer freight between the relevant checkpoints and also for wider freight workings. At closure, Phoenix was bought by the Belfast Transport Museum and resided for many years at the old premises in Witham Street. Along, with other CDR vehicles, she was transferred to the new purpose-built railway gallery at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum where, today, she can be visited by all CDR enthusiasts. This Locomotive uses one or more twinkles effects and custom textures created by Rob Hill (LieLestoSbrat) of Lesto Route Works and UK Branch Lines. This model is in memory of Ricky Sykes 1942-2008.
