This asset features working couplers, brakes, directional lights and driver position and a low detail LOD mesh. The loco is renumberable and includes all 22 Deltic names. CTRL+ right click the loco and select view details in driver to choose one of 4 ER headboards at either end, switch the ETH jumpers off or on, switch the steam heat off or on, add a high intensity headlight as the locos carry in preservation and set the headcodes to yellow with 2 dots, black with 2 dots or a fully operational 4 character headcode. This locomotive asset consumes fuel but this function has been disabled by default. Select the loco in surveyor to enable the fuel option if you wish to use it. Headcode type, wipers and quarterlight plating will be automatically configured for each locomotive, matching the prototype. Original work by Tom Cowan/Rob Thoburn. Mesh reworked by by tmz06003 with permission. A special thanks to Rumour3 for use of his scripts and driver for this project, Stuart Page (napierdeltic) for the use of his phototextures, stovepipe and 2995valiant for their research and testing help. Exhaust effects by stovepipe, steam heat by tmz06003.
Fixes incorporated in TS12 update:
-exhaust attachment points re-positioned to correct location
-cabs rotated to correct orientation
-cabs lowered to correct height
-logos and numbers moved to correct location
-rebuilt nose ends to correct profile.
2017 Update
- driver, controls and seats moved to correct position

An old project of some years ago waiting for myself to produce some new sound files. This has scripted exhaust by Napierdeltic and felix_g
There is a static exhaust that operates continuous. On top of this is the scripted exhaust that works up to throttle position 7. Once position 8 is reached the scripted exhaust will disappear.
Deltic’s operate normally on two engines but with 3,300 horse power wheel slip is a problem. When the locos were converted to work new coaches with ETH ( Electric Train heating ). They were modified to operate with the rear engine running at idle until the driver reaches notch 7 when the powerunit then runs up to full power. The locos have a notchless throttle except for the first position for taking power - notch 1. This is when the generator field contacts connect the traction motors to the generators. The throttles can then be moved to any position in a controlled manner depending on speed, load, gradient and weather conditions. Other marks on the throttle are only position markers.
Closing the throttle must be to 'notch 1'. Once the amps drop to zero the throttle and the connection to the traction
motors can be disconnected by closing the throttle to the off position. If this is not carried out and the generator is still producing power it can cause major failure of the generator and other electrics with a term called flashover. This is where the power produced from the generator needs to find a way to discharge itself if the traction motors are not connected. Causing the amps to transfer to anything it can to earth. Normally destroying the generator with large burn holes from the amps jumping across and an engine shutting down with a very expensive generator repair.
The Deltics have 2 stroke engines which produce blue smoke. This is difficult to show in Trainz with either white and black or a mixture of both being the norm. The outer edges of the two stroke exhaust shows signs of black which cannot be removed. There is an extra config file in this folder called 'more smoke' if you require it. Just rename this one to something else - 'old' for example and rename the other file to config.
Driving a Deltic is the same as any British diesel electric locomotive around the 1950-70's - like a car. Do not expect to get very far if the throttle handle is put to the full position straight away. Gradually open the throttle and increase the power slowly as those who drive road vehicles will appreciate. Too much power will make the wheels spin.
The locomotive is design with a maximum speed of 100 mph. The Deltics will run at throttle position 6 at 100mph on one engine depending on load and gradient. Extra power can be gain by opening the throttle to notch 7 when the second engine runs up to full power from idling.
The photo texture of the powerunit in the engineroom is quite a unique engine. This engine was taken out of a Fast Patrol 'Nasty' class boat number P469 that is based in Penzance, Great Britain.

This powerunit is completely different to the rail version which are fitted with a scavenger blower on the air intake to the engine. The marine engine is fitted with a turbocharger on the air intake to the engine. The powerunit was converted by a team of Deltic engineers including myself with the removal of the gearbox for the propeller, a new designed bottom dry sump casing and swapping parts from a defective Rail unit that had failed. The conversion completed in August 2007 and is photographed here at 2 o'clock on the Sunday morning just finished.

History:
Introduced in 1961, the BR class 55 Deltic locomotives quickly became the premier motive power on the ECML replacing the class A4 4-6-2s. With a top speed of 100mph and rated at 3,300hp, these locomotives were at that time the most powerful diesels in the world. They were initially concentrated on Haymarket, Finsbury Park and Gateshead depots but later in life other depots such as York had an allocation. They reigned supreme on the ECML until introduction of the HSTs in 1978. The final working was on 2 January 1982 when 55022 hauled the last Edinburgh- Kings Cross train bearing the appropriate headboard 'Farewell to Thy Greatness'. Stuart (Napierdeltic) was on the loco into Kings Cross. Six production series class 55s survive in preservation with some hauling railtours on the National Network.
