The MAV C50 was designed at the beginning of the 1950s for narrow gauge railways and more than 250 were produced between 1952 and 1968. The name originated from its power; its 4-cylinder, 4-stroke engine produces 50 HP. Nowadays there are less than 70 remaining: most Hungarian narrow gauge lines have one or more, but they are not all operating regularly.
