A total of 191 Drop Centre type tramcars were built between 1925 and 1938.
Drop Centre Trams built prior to 1935 were hand-brake operated. Many Dropcentres were converted to air-brake operation between 1959 and 1967and were then equipped with either 4ft 6ins or 5ft 5ins plate frame trucks.
The programme started with the highest number hand-barke tram and proceeded back numbering through to tram 277 at which stage Dropcentre trams began being scrapped. This model represents hand brake trams that were converted to air braking.
Notice the strengthened diamond plate truck.
No.277 has been preserved and restorated to running order at the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
