A total of 191 Drop Centre type tramcars were built by the Brisbane City Council and several coachbuilding contractors between 1925 and 1938.
Although now the lowest numbered Dropcentre, No231 was the first to be built.
Cars built prior to 1928 had open end platforms but were equipped with windscreens later during major overhauls.
Drop Centre Trams built prior to 1935 were hand-brake operated and were equipped with 4ft 6in diamond frame trucks.
231 has been preserved at the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
Here, this tram 231 is presented in the way it would have appeared when built.
