Commonwealth Railways First Class Sleeper ARF -
In 1952 the Commonwealth Railways imported two nine car passenger consists from
Wegmann in West Germany, for use on their Trans LIne between Kalgoorlie
and Port Pirie. The consist of each train (from the rear) was: first class
sleeper-observation car-ARF, two first class sleeping cars-ARD, lounge car-AFA, dining car-DC,
second class sleeper/lounge-BRF,two second class sleeping cars-BRB, and combination brake/power van-HRGA.
The total weight of the nine cars was approximately 440 tons.
The ARF is a first class sleeping/observation car, with accommodation for 18 people in nine two berth cabins.
The observation lounge had seating for five people.
