Victorian Railways V class T2 - ZecRail Christmas Train 2020 - Tender
Built by the Baldwin locomotive works in America in 1899, and entering service in 1900, V499 was the pattern locomotive of the Victorian Railways' V class locomotives, the first 2-8-0 class in Victoria. It's success lead to a further 15 V class locomotives to be built by the Phoenix Foundry in Ballarat, remaining in service from 1900 till 1930. Originally built as Vauclain Compound locomotives, the class was reboilered and converted to Simple Expansion locomotives in 1912-13. Later, from 1923, the lass was renumbered between 200 and V215 (several locos were scrapped prior to renumbering). The first to be scrapped was V513 in June 1924, with V499 (now V200) being the last in 1930.

The 'production' version of the V class, build by the Phoenix Foundry in Ballarat, entered service between 1901 and 1902. The Phoenix built locomotives featured several differences to pattern loco V499 (built by Baldwin), including Phoenix Foundry builders plates on the cab and tender sides, the more typical 'dart' arrangement on Victorian Railways locomotives, and 'round' flaring on the tender. When first introduced to service the Phoenix V class were painted Victorian Railways 2 tone green with white lining, polished steelwork and brasswork, and red frames. From around 1903 onwards, the VR changed to Canadian Red with the V class locos being repainted into this livery at some point after ~1905.

This model represents the Phoenix Foundry V class locos in a freelance livery for Christmas 2020 with Christmas decorations, and a name plate in memory of the late Normhart, a Trainzer who enjoyed having collections of locos, and who had collected all of the ZecRail Christmas Trains. It has 3 optional weathering levels; clean, light weathered, heavy weathered, and is model as in service in the 2 tone green era with air sanders, mechanical sander, and early crosshead lubrication.

This model is fitted with screwlink couplings, safety chains, and is set for the prototypical Broad Gauge (5ft3in gauge), for use with layouts with 5ft3in gauge track.

This locomotive and tender features the 'ACS' script by James Moody (bloodnok) to control animated couplers and brake hoses, and also includes James Moody's marker lamp code (to control the marker lamps, and tail lamps and tail discs). The locomotive also has controlable cab windows, cab doors, and roof vent, all of which are linked to the same in the cab view, as well as a controllable smokebox door, animated brake shoes, scripted brake hiss and brake squeal, and scripted working reverser and valve gear, and texture replacement for 'albedo', 'parameters' and 'normals' maps to choose between clean, lightly weathered, and heavily weathered versions, with changes to reflections and some raised detail on each texture set. A custom highly detailed interior view is also included. Various scripted smoke and sound effects are included, including air compressor, injectors, sander, blower, as well as scripted main smoke effect and cylinder drain effect, based on the regulator and cut-off or the steam chest pressure. The loco and tender also feature a 'snow' option, set via the snow-line option in your session or route. The tender features a 'deforming' coal animation, which changes shape as the coal is used, as well as coal boards that change as the coal gets low, and an animated filler lid with sound effect.
