The first 8 of Queensland Railways A12 class 4-4-0 locomotives came from Baldwin USA in 1882.
They were followed by another 10 in 1885 & No 96 was one of these.
Evans, Anderson and Phelan & Co., an engineering company in Brisbane, built another 25 in 1890-1891.
Six lasted until the 1920s and No 66 (built in 1884) was the last withdrawn in 1929.
The Baldwin sand box on these locos later became standard in Queensland and only imported locos (AC16,
Beyer Garratt) and the DD17 and BB18 1/4 classes differed.
