This is the base session for the Midwest Central route, Release 3 Beta2, <kuid2:87783:1346:1> October 2008.
This session is designed as a template for those of you wishing to run your own trains or design your own sessions using the MidCen Release 3 map. The session contains no rolling stock, but all the switches are set correctly. In addition, MidCen makes extensive use of the Invisible Speed Signal to set AI train speed through turnouts. Since the ISS is a session-based control, loading MidCen without a session resets all of the ISS controls to their default (off) position. There are almost 100 of them in Release 3 and programming them yourself is defnitely not recommended.
If you are planning to create your own sessions, *always* start with the base session. Just load it along with the map, then immediately save the session to a different name of your choice, thereby perserving the template. Add your rolling stock and you're ready to start working with your session.
Visit the MidCen homepage to download the operations manual and system map. Both are particularly helpful to session creators. The map allows you to use the milepost system to locate content, and the manual discusses many of the design concepts and operating techniques used in creating the route. http://trains.0catch.com.
If you create a session you like, consider submitting it for evalution. Accepted sessions will become part of the MidCen world and will be listed on the DS with other MidCen content. The author will be given credit for the session. If you're interested, contact me for details.
