The electric locomotive BR 185 is a four-axle two-system electric locomotive of the German railways, which along with locomotives of the BR 101 , BR 145 , BR 146 , BR 152 and BR 189 series is an integral part of the new Deutsche Bahn (DB) program for the production and operation of three-phase electric locomotives with asynchronous motors .

The 185 locomotives are positioned as universal, that is, they can be used for driving both passenger and freight trains. But a special role is assigned to the use of electric locomotives in long-distance interstate freight traffic.
