Shunting tender number Lo 32 was constructed by the NSWGR Workshops at Eveleigh, and delivered on 13th July 1917. It was allocated to Clyde Yard for shunting duties and was originally coupled to locomotive 5126.
Lo 32 spent the remainder of its career in this service until withdrawn in December 1970, by which time it was coupled to locomotive 5202 pushing and pulling the many vehicles taken out of service for repair at the Clyde Wagon Works.
The design parameters of the tender allowed for a vehicle with a short wheelbase and cut down side giving unprecedented vision of the closing distance for shunting. Small cast sand boxes were fitted above the buffer beam to assist not only in adhesion, but also in braking large loads of unbraked vehicles during shunting operations The provision of a fire pump allowed a quick first response time to any fire emergencies in the yard. Normally attached to a D50 class locomotive, the tender maintained its own identity, with that of the locomotive being displayed on the rear-side.
This vehicle was transferred to the care of the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum and placed in outdoor storage.
