Back when anthracite coal was still king, Tamaqua was the perfect coal marshalling town. Situated half way between Philadelphia and Newbury Junction, and having an interchange between the Reading and the Lehigh and New England, the town soon grew into a small city. Across from the ornate station was the Tamaqua freight depot. This building served both the Reading and the LNE, and even Conrail for a few years. Sadly, the building was demolished after serving as a lumber sales facility for several years.
It is resurrected here, thanks to Alex Lowmaster (Jadebullet) who supplied background information and some rare old photos on which the model was based.
