A spline of a Reinforced Earth Retaining Wall, with ballast fill behind the wall. The height above ground is nominally 6 metres, with 3 metres below ground, but it is height adjustable and may be raised from or sunk into the ground for a different structure height.
Use the shift key to prevent splines joining to previously placed ones, and if you place it in short lengths, the sloping end wall does not appear.
The wall is made from concrete interlocking facing panels, and relies on metal or other durable material straps attached to the rear of the wall and extending 6 metres or more into the fill, depending on wall height. The wall is constructed upwards with the straps placed between incremental layers of fill, and relies on the friction of the soil on the straps to give friction resistance to prevent the panels bulging.
Consequently, the wall must be used with fill behind. It is not a free standing wall. Skewed panels are not used in practice because of the layer placement process, so when the height is adjusted, The panels must remain square to be realistic.
This model has a ballast texture on the fill behind the wall, by request. This texture was created from the Dark Grey texture provided with the World Rails pack available from HOTrainz, I thank them for their permission to use the texture on this model.
Once installed you will find it as Reinforced Earth Wall 3 under splines in the Australia listing.
