A flyable Piper Cub J-3 aircraft, a light aircraft that was built between 1937 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft. The aircraft tilts and banks realistically. The speed for tilting may be altered in the string table above - speeds are in kph. Note landing speed above is a fraction of full speed, eg 0.45, not kph.
The aircraft is set up to tow a banner, the banner will only show at speeds above 36 kph, this value is changeable in the string table above. The banners are contained in the Banner Mesh Library asset, <kuid2:60238:60000:1>.
There are currently four banner types included in that asset:
Banner1: WE LIKE PIPER AIRCRAFT, an opaque model, the wording reads backwards on the reverse side;
Banner2: QANTAS SPIRIT OF AUSTRALIA, a transparent model requiring a bmp file as the alpha channel to make it transparent;
Banner 3: BOEING, an opaque double sided model, the lettering is readable on both sides;
Banner 4: A larger version of the Qantas banner, which will attach to the aircraft 8 metres further back. Other banners may be added later.
By default, banner 2 is called up in the config. Change the config name banner2.im to call up banner1, banner2, banner3 or banner_large. You may change the words or images on the banner by altering the banners in the Mesh Library asset. You cannot upload an altered banner Mesh Library under my kuid. Make your own Mesh Library for your banners and call it up from your model and add your library to the kuid table.
The model does not have an operating interior, but does have various exterior views based on an invisible interior, use the [ and ] keys from the interior view. It does load passengers at suitable airports. Initially the engines are stopped, Use the B key to start or stop engines. On startup, the pilot tests the rudder and tail elevators.
The aircraft has a number of animations that can be operated by keyboard keys, or the Aircraft Action Trigger, kuid2:76656:24060:1, when placed on track and set to the correct number:
- to start engines, press the B key or use trigger setting 2. An engine start rule is also available for AI.
- open side doors, H key.
- issue smoke and sound from the tyres when landing, use trigger setting 4.
- to flare the aircraft for landing, trigger setting 7 or V key.
- come to a gradual stop on landing, trigger setting 9.
- set speed to 40% of maximum speed, for landing approach, trigger setting 14.
Note: Shadow models are required but cannot be animated to follow aircraft animation. If you do not like the shadow showing on the body of the aircraft, in the config call up the shadow_inv.im file which is an invisible shadow.
