Josh Harvey's E8 reskinned by American Locomotive and Car Company for New York Central Systems passenger trains.
Between 1951 and 1953 the NYC purchased 60 of these engines, but no 'B' units. They were usually ran in A-A combos, or teamed with E7 B units. This particular unit was still active at least as late as 1989, completely restored and operated by the Central New York chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society. These 2,250 horsepower units ultimately outlived the NYC itself, and its sucessor, Penn Central. Many were still active in the early years of Amtrak.
