Salix 'sibirica'/'argenta' README
Salix 'sibirica'/'argenta', Finn. hopeapaju ('Silver Willow').
Another very conspicuous ornamental tree in Finland, and is guaranteed to be seen in any park.
My sources do not reveal the origins of this hybrid, but I gather it to be a relative
of the While Willow (Salix alba), but the leaves are covered on both sides by very reflective
fine hairs. Apparently not much cultivated outside Scandinavia, and possibly, as the name
suggests, Siberia.
The tree is usually multi-trunked, but this park tree example coming from the large end
of the size scale has had its side-trunk cut.
