Populus tremula README
Populus tremula, Eng. Aspen, Finn. [metsä]haapa. The 'trembling people' tree gets its name
from the way its leaves are allowed to move in relation to each other by the long and
flat stalks. The tree is a trailblazer tree; it lives in a symbiosis with
nitrogen-binding bacteria and is thus able to provide its own 'fertilizer'. A solitary
Aspen is a rare sight, the tree rapidly spreads by root shoots and forms small forests
on a suitable (light) soil.

The variety here is the 'Erecta' that is commonly planted as an ornamental tree in Finland,
typically near tall buildings.
Note the tree is in form similar to the Lombardy Poplar (a cloned variety of P. nigra)
planted in Central and Southern Europe.
