Chesapeake & Ohio owned a total of 57 NW2's, including 21 inherited from Pere Marquette in 1947 (#51-64 and 1850-1856, later renumbered 5275-5289 and 9558-9564), 34 bought on their own (#5060-5079 and 5200-5213), and two by absorbing shortline Manistee & Northeastern (#5297 and 5298) Generally, switchers numbered in the 5000 and 5100-series were for the 'Chesapeake District', south of and including Toledo, OH, and switchers numbered in the 5200-series were for the 'PM District' north of Toledo, OH.
