Lehigh Valley bought 12 new GP38-2's in 1972, operating them for four years before the formation of Conrail. They arrived in bright red paint numbered 314-325, right after the four GP38AC's purchased in 1971. Crews say that these were the best engines 'the Valley' ever owned.
